“We also tried to do things with a more broad appeal, like the Pixar tour,” says Scott of the private guided visit of the not-open-to-the-public Pixar campus. The winner of this auction can bring a grown-up friend plus 2 children, and animated rodent chef Patton Oswalt (who arranged for the tour) assures a “massive goodie basket” as well.
Every cent of the auction money will go to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, an efficiently-run non-profit that provides food for almost 900 sites throughout LA County, including for food pantries, senior centers, AIDS hospices, and homes for abused and neglected children. For every $1 that they receive, the LARFB distributes $5 of food and products to people in need.
Last year’s action netted about $22,000 for the food bank, and this year, Aukerman is hoping to increase the donation. In addition to offering bidders extraordinary opportunities, the bidding system now ensures that ALL of the money goes to LARFB. “Last year, eBay took something like 5% (about $2,000). This year, we’re using LA Food Bank's [eBay interface], so eBay won’t get anything. All the auction money will go to the Food Bank.”
For those without enough money to buy pretend camaraderie and signed things, there is always the value-priced/comedian-packed Comedy Death-Ray Christmas CD, the proceeds of which also go to the Food Bank.
Impatient? Download it now for $10. Want to sleep with it under your pillow AND enjoy bonus tracks (like "(Christmas) Lady Marmalade")? Buy it from AST Records. At $10 for 34 tracks, it's the perfect way to both thank and confuse your postman, doorman, or day care provider.
